Flower Child

Today I am wearing a 60's and 70's hippie inspired outfit. I found these amazing vintage flared jeans at the Nelson Sunday Market for $1, the top is also second hand and given to me by a friend. I love op-shopping so much, it's just amazing what you can find! Approximately 90% of my wardrobe is now second hand or locally made and I'm really proud because it's so much better than supporting the brand new, slave labour, clothing companies. I often used to get bullied in primary school for wearing second hand clothes but now it's becoming more and more "cool." It's great to see that people are starting to realize that it's better it is for the environment and how much more sustainable it is. I'm not actually wearing a bra in these photos just a lace crop top underneath so it's not see-through. It's much harder for chicks with big boobs to get away with but I figured, what the hell. If you're thinking of trying this I'd recommend wearing some sort of tight fitted top underneath whatever you are wearing so they're still slightly supported and theres less chance of anything showing through.

Autumn Egyptian Butterfly

It's now Autumn here in New Zealand, yay for cold rainy days and nature shedding it's Summer greens. So I decided to celebrate by wearing Autumn colours, red, orange and gold with a darker undertone. The butterfly top is second hand from Paper Bag Princess, the skirt is a piece of cloth I found and decided to use as a sarong, I can't actually remember where the fishnet top came from and the boots are Dr Martens that my wonderful boyfriend bought for me. I love mixing different cultures and styles together. Here I'm wearing an Egyptian print skirt and a bindi which is originally an Indian decoration, with a black fishnet top and knee-high Dr Marten boots which is a kind of punkish, gothic, grunge look, and a butterfly crop top which is very floaty, delicate and feminine. I like to accentuate my curves without actually showing much, so I prefer wearing long high-waisted and skirts and crop-tops with high necklines that only leaving a strip of naked waistline, or in this case covered in some sort of sheer fabric. The butterfly is a symbol of change and transformation, which suits the season of Autumn because it is when nature prepares itself for the harsh cold days of Winter.

Pinstripes Pants

I like to combine feminine and masculine elements in my outfits, for example the pale floral print shirt with the darker vertical striped pants and chunky leather boots. The shirt and the pants are both second hand, so is the leather belt which I borrowed off a friend, I bought the glasses online, and the boots are Dr Martens. I'm also wearing a bindi, which is a common decoration for women in India, that represents the third eye or the sixth chakra. The bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. I have an hourglass figure so I need to accentuate my small waist and curves, which is why I love these high-waisted pants with the belt.

Vintage Fur Coat

This is one of my favorite outfits at the moment, I love the primary color pallet mixed with the grey fur and black and white tights. I also like to mix elements from different cultures and eras, hence the vintage fur with Japanese print dress. The dress is from Cosmic Corner, tights are from Cotton On, I bought the blue Dr Martens second hand, the glasses I found on TradeMe and the coat is vintage rabbit fur, given to me by a friend. I don't support the way animals are skinned and tortured or anything of the sort, but I appreciate that this particular coat was made a very long time ago, and I would rather make the most out of it's beauty than have it slowly decomposing somewhere being unused and unloved and that animal's life therefore be wasted. By only wearing second hand vintage fur I am not financially supporting the modern fur industry, I would never buy any of their newly made products. That's just my personal opinion on the subject. I'm open to any feedback about this outfit or my ideas and opinions.
