Directing Experience
National Youth Drama School
2015
In my fourth year at National Youth Drama School I studied Directing with tutor Holly Chappell-Eason. We worked for eight days learning different directing techniques and got to apply them on students in the Advanced Acting class, who were taught during the week by Holly's husband Thomas Eason. For our sharing of work we showed what we had been learning by performing exactly as we did in the classroom. We tied it all together with the Viewpoints exercise and did Side-coaching with our actors.
"This class will be a balance of learning the directing craft theoretically and practically. You will investigate the basics of directing; ways to coach actors, working with text, casting, structuring rehearsals and leadership. You will also have the chance to direct students from the Advanced Acting class in short scenes, with the support of your tutor. This is an advanced class designed for older, more experienced students."

My "A Midsummer Night's Dream" cast that won the best production award then travelled on to the National Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival in Wellington, New Zealand.

Following my great success with the Shakespeare festival I then challenged myself to direct and act in a scene from the musical "Sweeny Todd" at Nayland College's Music, Dance and Drama Showcase.
