I love behind the scenes photos because they show the reality not just the pretty picture, which is only the end result. But there's so much more to it than that and that's why I love sharing my behind the scenes shots. Actually, even these are only a snippet of what goes on because typically a photoshoot only takes a few hours whereas I can spend days first of all thinking up ideas and planning and then afterwards sorting, editing and posting the final images. But those would be rather boring photos of me sitting at my desk so I won't share that with you!

This particular day was spent with my wonderful friend Summah, my muse, I styled her in both of our clothes and did her makeup. You can see the final images in Part One, Part Two and Part Three on my Photography blog. Part One was not not on the same day at Wharariki but happened at the same time that Summah came to stay with me. Hope you enjoy!

Here's a few behind the scenes shots that were taken during our 'Sun and Moon' photoshoot, when Gabrielle Wee photographed Sunnie and I down by the Takaka river. I thought these were just too cute not to share! I did the styling and my own makeup. This collaboration was so much fun, I couldn't ask for better people to work with.

I recently helped Summah out with a couple of shoots, this one was with Isiah Stevenson, wearing clothing from Sidecar Menswear. His friend Vinnie also came along to assist.

I collaborated with my good friend and photographer, Summah Noakes. She was photographing Alex Searle in clothing from Trouble and Fox. I did the makeup and behind the scenes photography while Lili was the stylist. They were an awesome group to work with. Everyone was very enthusiastic and we had fun scouting out locations around Nelson city.

I'm pretty proud of my makeup skills as it's not something I was trained in, although I do most of the makeup for my own projects, I really just make it up as I go along. I also discovered how much I love doing behind the scenes photography, there's no pressure and I just get to chill out and watch everything while capturing moments that would otherwise go unseen. Sorry there's so many! I got a bit carried away.

Here's some behind the scenes shots from my photoshoot with Dove that were taken on my phone. I also did the makeup and styling for this shoot. The location was the beautiful Milnethorpe Park in Golden Bay, New Zealand. I absolutely love it there and I definitely plan to work there again. It also happened to be pouring with rain that day (luckily we were sheltered from the worst of it by the trees) but we braved it anyway. That's why in the first photo I'm making desperate attempts not to get my camera wet and looking very silly in the process!

These were taken while I was photographing belly-dancer Lisa Maia Ambrose at Milnthorpe beach. It was such a wonderful day, I'm glad that we made the time to meet up and collaborate.

I had such a wonderful day shooting for Summah's animal mask project! I did the styling for this shoot, most of what we are wearing are just random pieces from my wardrobe.

These absolutely amazing masks were made at Community Art Works in Nelson, thank you Karl Wulff for letting us borrow them. Also make sure you check out at Summah Noakes Photography page. I'm hoping to do more crazy projects like this in the future and collaborate with more awesome talented people.
